Are There Any Diet Restrictions to Follow after Laser Liposuction?

by | Published on Sep 26, 2016 | Laser Liposuction

Men and women considering laser liposuction to contour their body are on the rise as cosmetic surgery statistics show. A skilled and experienced plastic surgeon and the advanced resources and facilities of an established plastic surgery practice can ensure safe and optimal results. However, maintaining the results for long is always challenging. Regular exercise after the treatment is very important. Similarly, making some wise diet decisions until complete recovery is important to speed up the recovery process. After recovery, an effective exercise and diet program would help considerably in maintaining the results of your liposuction surgery.

A diet that is high in saturated fat right after the liposuction surgery is not advisable. Try to avoid or limit the intake of fast food, fatty meats, fried foods, baked goods, and full-fat dairy products during this period. Importantly, avoid processed foods that contain unhealthy trans fats.

  • Include more food stuffs that promote healing. Make your diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and low-fat sources of protein such as lean meat.
  • Elevated levels of sodium may cause inflammation in your body and this in turn slows down the healing progress. Avoiding salty foods for a period of at least 2 to 4 months would be ideal.
  • If you gain weight during the healing process, it may negatively affect your treatment results. Restrict the consumption of sugary foods during the period. Instead, include more vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that can speed up your healing.
  • Avoiding alcohol consumption for at least the first two days after the surgery is recommended. You should also limit alcohol intake during the ongoing recovery process. Or else, it may interfere with the effects of some medications and cause health issues and delayed healing.

These are just a few of the common diet recommendations after laser liposuction. Your plastic surgeon would give you proper guidance regarding the precautions to take after your surgery, the proper diet to follow and exercises to engage in. Make sure that you follow all the instructions carefully so as to enjoy the best results.
