The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) sends questionnaires to plastic surgeons worldwide to collect statistics about the number and type of aesthetic (cosmetic) procedures they performed during a one-year period. The 2014 ISAPS survey collected data from a total of 1,391 plastic surgeons. The results revealed that, as in 2013, liposuction still ranked second in the list of leading cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2014, coming close behind eyelid surgery. Here are some interesting points on the popularity of liposuction in 2014 as revealed by this survey:
- A total of 1,372,901 liposuction procedures were performed worldwide last year, which was 14.8% of the total surgical procedures
- The US led in lipo with 243,306 procedures, making up 17.7 of the total surgical procedures
- Lipo was the second most popular cosmetic surgical treatment in the US after breast augmentation
- Brazil stood second in the list with 217,606 procedures – 15.9% of the total
- In Brazil, Mexico, Germany and Columbia, liposuction was the most performed cosmetic surgical procedures in 2014
- 1,197,880 women underwent liposuction last year which was 87.3% of the total and lipo was the second most popular procedure among women last year
- 175,021 male candidates had lipo in 2014 which was 12.7% of the total and it was the third most popular procedure among males last year
